From the Potsdam Courier & Freeman Thursday, November 16, 1961:

Norwood-One of the oldest businesses in Norwood sold out this week as the H. M. Kinsman Co. Inc. turned over its franchise for Buick and Chevrolet automobiles to Mace Motors of Canton.

Final papers were signed Nov. 10 and Frank Mace, president of Mace Motors, will act as local manager of the Kinsman dealership temporarily.

Operation of the H. M. Kinsman Co. by Mace began immediately after the papers were signed and plans have been formulated to expand the Norwood business to cover Potsdam also.

For the present time the name "H.M. Kinsman Co. Inc." will be retained but a new name is in the planning. All employees have been retained by Mace.

Kinsman E. Wright, president of the corporation, has retained ownership of the buildings and has leased them to Mace Motors.

H. M. Kinsman Co. was founded in 1883 by Henry M. Kinsman. It had its beginnings as a hardware store and developed into a wholesale harness business which also sold and repaired carriages. In 1913 the business incorporated and began dealing in the volume sale of cattle and western horses.

About 1920 they were selling various makes of cars including the Model T Ford, Maxwell and Hupmobile until the mid-20't when they acquired a Buick-Chevrolet franchise.

The business was managed by Harry Farmer until his death in 1955. E. E. Wright has also been active in management since 1913 as well as maintaining a law practice and serving as President of the Norwood Bank until that organization merged with the St. Lawrence County Bank.

Kinsman E. Wright has been a the more recent manager and has been active in the dealership since 1934 when he was a member of the third graduating class of Sons of Dealers School at General Motors Institute.

Wright also graduated from Rollins College in Winterpark, Fla., and with the exception of the time spent in the Armed Forces during WWII has lived with his wife, Alice, in Norwood. They have three sons.

He has also been active in Norwood Kiwanis, Chamber of Commerce, United Fund (article ends at this point).
