Norwood--February 1950

 

Earl Claffey took high single Thursday evening in the Norwood Firemen's bowling league when he bowled a 213 game. High triple honors were divided between George McLennan, Jr. and Leo Hickey, each rolling up games totaling 540. Other 500 keglers were E. J. Wilkins 530, Ken Watson 531, Don Ferguson 509, Rodney Murray 520, James McCormick 533, Walter LaBrake 508, Larry Smith 534, Fay Hunter 503, Earl Claffey 526, and Louis Honer 502.

In the team events Claffeys took 3 points from Hickeys, Edwards took 3 points from Murrays and Woods and Smiths split the points 2 and 2.

The Eight or Later Bridge club which was recently formed met at the home of Mrs. Gilbert Whalen, Jr. at her home on Morgan street on Friday evening. Two tables of contract bridge were in play. Prizes were won by Mrs. Dorothy Walsh, Miss Judy Parr and Mrs. Carroll Jenner, Jr. Members of the club include Mrs. Whalen, Mrs. Charles Palmer, Mrs. Tony Orologio, Mrs. Dorothy Walsh, Mrs. Kenneth Donovan, Mrs. Carroll Jenner, Jr., Mrs. Weldon Price and Mrs. Pat Ballard.

Mr. And Mrs. Gardner Harris, Balboa, Canal Zone, are the parents of a son, Marshall Leon, born in Balboa on Thursday, January 26. Mrs. Harris is the former Miss Jean McCarger, daughter of Mr. And Mrs. Leon McCarger, South Main street, Norwood.

Mrs. Gerald Dockum entertained the Eight O'clock Bridge club at her home on Baldwin Avenue on Friday evening. Prizes were won by Mrs. William MacFarlane, Mrs. Sealy Buck and Mrs. Richard McCormick.

Miss Evelyn Quigley, daughter of Mr. And Mrs. Maurice Quigley, Norwood has been initiated into the Kappa Delta Honorary Society of Potsdam State Teachers college. At a recent meeting, Miss Quigley was elected as one of two delegates who are to attend the Kappa Delta National convention which is to be held at Mitchell, Indiana in March. Miss Quigley, a junior at Potsdam State Teachers is at present doing her off-campus teaching at West Carthage.
