Around Norwood in the 1930's

 

From the Friday, January 27, 1933 Potsdam Herald:

 

The Norwood News of this week says: "W.T. Leonard, W.W. Leonard, G.L. Shepard and R. J. Plummer went to the golf grounds of the Potsdam Club Monday Jan. 23, and had a game of golf. These men stated that it was as nice weather for golf as at any time in summer. Mr. Shepard carried off the honors by making the sixth hole, 112 yards, in par."

 

 

From the Friday Feb. 17, 1933 Potsdam Herald:

 

While we are waiting for snow enough to make sleighing for some of our activities in the North Country, New York City had a gang of 12,000 clearing the streets of that city after the worst snow storm in years, which demoralized traffic. Unofficial reports set the snow fall at 7 inches. The temperature stood at 21 above.-Norwood News.

 

From the Friday, August 11, 1939 Potsdam Herald:

 

The Misses Helen and Alice Cassidy and Mrs. A. H. Nickerson left Monday morning on a motor trip to Berlin, N.H., where they will spend a few days with Mr. and Mrs. Allen J. Porteus. They also plan to visit other points in the East before returning.-Norwood News.

 

Harry Butler, son of Mr. and Mrs. T. O. Butler of Norwood, has accepted a position as principal of the school at Santa Clara. Mr. Butler will graduate with the June class of Potsdam Normal, specializing in Junior High work. Mr. Butler is a member of the following clubs: President of newly organized Men's Student Council; President of Organ Club; member of Business Staff of the Racquette (weekly school paper) and the Pioneer (year book); member of the Alpha Sigma Omicron, national journalistic society; active member of the Dramatic club, Men's Bowling League and of the Men's club. Mr. Butler is a graduate of the Brasher and Stockholm High school.

 

From the August 27, 1930 Courier & Freeman:

 

Miss Margaret Ekdahl, "Miss America of 1930" will be at Hillview Dance Pavilion between Potsdam and Norwood this evening, August 27th. Miss Ekdahl was selected to represent America as its most perfect specimen of beautiful womanhood in the International Beauty Pageant at Rio de Janiero in September. Up to the time she sails for South America, Miss Ekdahl will make a limited number of personal appearances throughout the east. Miss Ekdahl, a blonde though only eighteen years of age, has won six interstate beauty contests held in the principal cities of the South. She also holds the title as the Souths most perfect physical culture girl.
