Norwood in the 1930's From the Tuesday March 18, 1930 edition of the Canton Commercial Advertiser:
Norwood News-
It will be of interest to the traveling public to know that W. C. Gage, for many years in the hotel business in Northern New York, will return to the Norwood Hotel on Saturday, March 15th as office manager for the Furedy Hotel Corp., Inc., in co-operation with Mr. E. S. Furedy, president of the corporation. This will permit Mr. Furedy to give a little more of his time to the Potsdam Country Club this summer, as he has taken the contract to conduct the dining room and grill as well as the catering of this club for 1930.
We are sure that "Bill" Gage's friends will be glad to hear of his return to Norwood.
From the Tuesday October 24, 1933 edition of the Canton Commercial Advertiser:
A deal was closed recently whereby Mr. and Mrs. Francis Schramm, of Childwold, became the owners of Norwood Inn, taking possession immediately. Mr. and Mrs. Schramm for the past eight years conducted the Shady Lodge Hotel at Childwold, which they have rented to Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Henline of Syracuse. Previous to taking up the hotel business Mr. Schramm was with the International Paper Company's mill at Piercefield.
Mr. and Mrs. Schramm are popular hotel people and will do everything possible to make it pleasant for the patrons of Norwood Inn and by doing so will merit the patronage of people throughout Northern New York. They are making a specialty of Sunday dinners, serving them at a price within the range of everyone.-Norwood News.
The following letter appeared in the Friday, January 5, 1934 edition of the Potsdam Herald-Recorder:
Editor Herald-Recorder:
Having kept a diary of a great many years, I was much interested in a statement given in the Norwood News by E. T. S. Thayer. For the month of December, 1933 as follows:
1933-Dec. 9th-15 below, 10th-18 below, 11th-10 below, 12th-16 below, 14th-18 below, 15th-6 below, 23rd-6 below, 25th-2 below, 26th-12 below, 27th-20 below, 28th-30 below, 29th-36 below, 30th-38 below.
I think I can go him one better by the record of December 1917, as follows:
1917: Dec. 3rd-8 below, 6th-16 below, 7th-18 below, 8th-26 below, 9th-zero, 10th-10 below, 11th-28 below, 12th-33 below, 13th-8 below, 14th-2 below, 15th-18 below, 16th-44 below, 17th-25 below, 18th-22 below, 22nd-4 below, 26th-12 below, 27th-20 below, 28th-30 below, 29th-35 below, 30th-45 below, 31-30 below.

From the May 3, 1939 Potsdam Courier & Freeman:
The managers of the Norwood creamery have notified this department that they do not use Wisconsin cream in the manufacture of their butter and that they have never used any out of state cream. This correction is due the Norwood creamery as it was stated a few weeks ago that a carload of Wisconsin cream was shunted off at Norwood. This cream was evidently meant for some other point but not for the Norwood Creamery.
