Gardner W. Chandler died at his home on Spring street, Norwood, Saturday, Dec. 22, 1900, aged 82 years. His death was quite sudden, he being ill with pneumonia only a few days. The funeral was held at the house Monday afternoon. Interment in the Twin Ellis cemetery Tuesday. Mr. Chandler was on of the oldest residents of this place, and a respected citizen. He was born in Potsdam, and has always been a resident of the town. His parents were from Rochester, Vermont. He leaves a widow, a son, William. Of this place, and daughter, Mrs. Frank W. Barron, of Sibley, Iowa, who was with her father during his sickness. Mr. Barron reached Norwood Monday evening.
H.B. and E.G. Thomas have purchased the Buffham farm, situated on the State road, one and one half miles southerly from Madrid village. Consideration $2,500. Messrs. Thomas have turned in their place on Cottage street, $1,500 as part payment. The transaction through the real estate agency of I.P. Vance. They will take possession Jan. 1st.
Oel Austin lost a valuable horse Tuesday. A son of Mr. Austin attended the moving picture show at Music Hall, and while returning home and about opposite Mr. John McNulty's Main street residence, was run into by two persons riding a horse coming from Norfolk direction. Austin turned out, but the other driver dashed into his rig, and the thill pierced the shoulder of Mr. Austin's horse. The animal was taken to the barn of Mr. McNulty, where it received medical treatment, but died.
Mrs. Mary Currier and Mrs. Hugh McKenty, have each received $50 from their sons, Henry Currier and John McKenty, as Christmas gifts. John and Henry are in the Klondike, and are working their own claims, having put in new mining machinery, and we are told they are doing well. It now takes about three weeks for a letter to reach them. When they first located in that country four months must pass before a letter could reach them from Norwood.
Mrs. Mable P. Clark and Mr. William H. Call were married Thursday, December 20th, at the residence of Mr. Ashley Clark, Prospect street, by Rev. Cobb. Mr. and Mrs. Call's address after January 1st will be 504 Kensington avenue, Kansas City, Mo.
