NORWOOD

Mr. Finch completed the job of moving the freight depot, getting it placed upon its foundation, consisting of 51 piers, last Saturday evening, and Monday commenced the work of getting ready to move the passenger depot. In the passenger depot are the offices of the R.R. station agents, telegraph offices, etc. The talk is that the work is to go on, and the men, telegraphs and all stay there and go on with their work same as now. The structure is to be moved about 40 rods directly westerly and be left along side the O.& L.C.R.R. line. When the job is done no passenger trains of the R.W. & O. R.R. are to go north of the passenger depot, thereby removing the necessity of teams going over any R.R. track to get to the passenger depot. On the northerly side of the depot the passengers and baggage of the V.C.R.R. will be left, and all the passengers and baggage of the R.W., & O.R.R. will be left and new location will be at the turn of the road a little easterly of the hub factory building….Mr. Print Phelps, who has been spending his time this summer with Paul Smith at his mammoth hotel in the great woods, came home on the Sunday morning sleeper to remain a while at the Whitney House…Mr. Fletcher has returned from his western trip, and Mr. Claflin from the woods, and Mr. Murphy from his Michigan journey to visit his aged mother, and the lawyers of Norwood now are all at home rested and ready for business…E.F. Hall and W.H. Wells went to Herkimer last week to attend the firemen's convention…Mendell and wife have recently become the parents of a little girl…Banker Smith and Lawyer Bixby have recently been taking their meals at the Whitney House and keeping bachelor's hall at home…Lon Lathan (sp), Norwood's chief of police, and others went to the woods last week and Lon had the good luck to bring down three deer and another of the party got one…The Good Templars had an ice cream social on the park Saturday evening last which brought in over $20, which will go towards the payment of a new carpet for their hall, the old carpet having been destroyed or badly injured at the time of the Bowen fire. Since the fire they have held their meetings in the Odd Fellows hall, but now they have got back into their own hall. The Lodge seems to be in good condition and gathering in a large number of young folks and doing considerable for the cause of temperance…Prof. McDonald has got his new house so far along inside that they are now moving into it and will be settled therein by the time the school begins next week…Under the influence of recent rains, the river here is in good condition for work and the work goes briskly on.
