The Norwood Library began operation on September 17, 1912, at which time it was located over the Norwood Bakery on main street. A fire severely damaged this location on February 8, 1920, and of the 1000 books which belonged to the library at that time, only the 200 books in circulation were saved. The community and other libraries worked together and soon had the library back in operation.

The library has been an important part of Norwood for 86 years!

The Norwood Library is located at the corner of North Main Street and Morton Street. It is a modern building built in 1984 and is handicapped accessible, has free parking and a 12 person meeting room available for community use by request.

The library has over 16,000 books on its shelves and subscribes to approximately fifty magazines. The Library is associated with the North Country Library System and has inter-library loan capability.

Six on-line computers are available for use by the public. One computer is available for NCLS card catalog searches.

The library is totally computer automated. These computers were donated by the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation.

The month of November is dedicated as 'Art Month'. This will be an annual event.

The month of June is being set aside as 'NNCS Student Art Month'. 2005 will be the first year for this display.

Through the generosity of the Norwood Kiwanis Club, children can dial 353-2234 and hear a recorded story which is changed on a regular basis.
